Bac Ha Sunday Market
Bac Ha is a town in Northwestern Vietnam with a colorful Sunday Market attended by tourists and locals alike. It is an occasion for different hill tribes inhabiting the Bac Ha mountain region to gather for gossip, food and crafts.
You can distinguish the different Hmong tribes by the subtle differences in their vibrant, colorful outfits. A main product sold is embroidered textiles of bold geometric designs in bright, contrasting colors.
Tourists are often offered Vietnamese trinkets, though once you enter the heart of the market, the villagers remain the primary vendor and customer. Hmong locals trade tobacco, household goods and freshly butchered meats. They reunite with family members and celebrate their culture.
